Host Plant Resistance with Examples
When we use the term, host plant resistance, it means using plant species, varieties or cultivars that are tolerant or unfavorable to certain pests. Today, we have plant varieties that resist a number of pests. Here are some examples:
  • Sorghum midge, greenbug resistant sorghum
  • Caterpillar resistant soybeans
  • Corn earworm resistant sweet corn
  • Chinch bug resistant St. Augustine grass
  • "Hairy"-leafed cotton
  • Genetically-engineered plants
